Selene's adventure

~The next day~ As the sun rose Ayah changed from her night clothes and walked into the living room she could her the loud snoring of her father and smiled. She grabbed her brossbow and backpack and headed out for hunting and gathering for breakfast.

Zack yawned and slipped out of his sleeping bag and went to go and change into his bright red vans and his usual attire for going outside. "Hey grandpa I'm going outside again. Don't worry I'll bring my sword too. He sighs as he goes outside.

Ayah sits on a large rock smacking her boots on the rock making thud sounds. thud, thud, thud, thud. She stopped when she heard rustling in a nearby bush and set her crossbow pointing it in the direction of the sound.

Zack slips on the pair of gloves he had in his pockets and put them on, getting ready to climb the tree. He prepares to pounce onto the tree, getting completely ready to spring. He then jumps up, grabbing hold of it and climbing as quickly as he can. Before a minute he is on top of the tree, looking down at the floor. He stares down and sees Ayah a distance away. He waves at her to see if he can get her attention.

Ayah notices the waving boy and waves back. She then jumps off the rock watching the doe and fawn run past her. They were white that was very weird, but she shrugged and walked over to the tree, climbing up to be with him.

Zack removes his gloves to see his hands completely red. "Sorry if I.. Uh.. Made you miss your kill.. " he apologizes, feeling a bit guilty for making her miss her chance of killing the doe.

"Nayh its fine! I don't kill does and fawns. If I did I'd be a terrible person. She isn't what gives a hunter pride. A buck does. Thats what I need to get." She looks around trying to find some berry bushes. "So how was the rest of your day?"

"Well my grandpa told me stories about when he was little and adventured like I did. I also kept waking up in my sleep by small nightmares..I don't know why they happen either.." Zack says as he lightly kicks his feet back and forth from the branch he was sitting on.

Ayah shrugged and tackled him making sure they stayed on the tree. "Maybe you had nightmares about the terrible horrorterrors that live in the woods. Maybe they were whispering to you in your sleep!" She says in a haunting voice and then starts laughing about the old fairy tale her father would tell her.

"Heh very interesting. I bet they must have been stalking me." Zack chuckled and sighed, thinking about how and why he gets bad dreams.

"Perhaps they wanted to steal your soul and use your body as a vessel for dark and dangerous things..." She whispers into his ear her lips moving slowly. Pronouncing each word carefully. One thing she didn't realise was that her lips were brushing against his ear.

Zack blushes noticing how close she was to his ear. "T-that would be a sh-shame if they took o-over.." He stuttered. "I-it would be a horrible thing i-if they used me for bad th-things.." He adds.

Ayah pulled away and laughed but then she became serious. "I've always heard stories about them. I've always wondered if those stories were true. Its...i just don't have the guts to see if its true." She says but smiles anyway. "I don't need to know now because I'm not lonely now! I have you. You're the first friend I've ever really had." She says facing Zack with the brightest smile she had ever had.

Zack gives her a shy smile and nods "You are my best friend. My other friends haven't really talked to me for a year or so since they all go to school somewhere else." He hasn't interacted with someone his age in a year or maybe even more. He wondered how old she was anyway.

"I've been homeschooled all my life. My father said my mother would want it that way, since they thought the world was the most evil thing in the world and if they protect me from it I won't be so mean and full of myself. So I can think about bigger things in life and care for others." She says in one big breath relaxing. It had forever since she talked about her mom and it felt good to.

"My grandpa had me take classes on swordsmanship from him, saying I didn't need mean ol' teachers to make me learn things. " Zack says as he looks at how the grass below him sways slowly to the small morning breeze. "I wonder what would happen if the world was quiet like it is here. I bet there would be no problems and everyone would be peaceful.. " he thought aloud.

"Yeah. I guess that teachers would be mean. Perhaps one time we can let our folks meet and they can talk about their stories and put eachother asleep!" Ayah says laughing lightly at the thought. Ayah looks at the ground seeing the grass sway like Zack and felt if it was lulling her asleep.

Zack's eyes flash open quickly as he felt himself going to sleep. 'NO! I CAN'T SLEEP!NOT TO HAVE MYSELF BE MISERABLE AND DYING ON THE INSIDE! ' his mind screams. His mind swirls with the vivid images of his dreams. The red miles were chasing after him, making him almost die. The images of everyone around him dying from a black mist. His hands go up to his head and he begins to shake as the voices speak to him through his mind.

Ayah grabbed Zack. "Zack are you ok? What's wrong?" Ayah paincked. She couldn't figure out what was wrong and couldn't think of what to do so she sat there with him trying to keep him safe.

Zack couldn't hear Ayah so he just stared wide eyed at the floor. "S-stop the voices! " he pleads, tearing up a little and shutting his eyes closed tight. He's still trembling and mumbling things to himself like: "Make it stop!"

Ayah starts paincking more. "ZACK! Zack! Snap out of it! I was just joking! The horrorterrors aren't coming to get you! JUST PLEASE WAKE UP." Ayah wanted to help but couldn't.

Zack eyes snap open and looks at her in a trance-like fashion. He twitches and begins to cry. "I shouldn't have gone to bed last night! It keeps happening Ayah! The night before I hadn't slept but whenever I do the next morning I hear them! The stupid voices! " He wails. He never should have went to sleep. His insomnia was the only way he kept himself safe from the voices.

Ayah held Zack close putting his head on her lap and stroked his hair. "There is nothing you can do. Whatever they are won't go away. Unless...have you ever tried playing soothing music when you sleep? I know when I do I sleep really well." Ayah said throwing an idea out, but she felt more helpless than she had ever in her life.

He sniffles and shakes his head. "I'd like to tell you something.. I'm an insomniac. *sniffle* I stay awake to protect myself.*sniffle*" he remembered his grandpa telling him about the voices just they never got that bad until today.

Ayah nodded. "I see...well tonight I'll meet you by the lake and I can try help you." She says in a soft voice like a mother to her child and a sweet spring breeze. "Now that, that's out of the way we should try to have some fun ok?" She just wanted to rid him of the terrible voices.
