Aspect: Envy

So, you know what they are. Envy is when you want your neighbour's dolly. Greed is when you want all the money in the world. Lust is when you want his wife. Right?

Wrong, dead dead dead wrong.
The three are near each other, but in essence it's not what you want, it's how you want.

First, Envy. Envy is when you want her dolly, as stated above, and it's closer than the other definitions to what it really is. >What envy is is when you want what is another person's, and it has a sense of futility.< So, it's not when you want her dolly. It's when Sylvester looks at Jackson with all the attention he gets, athletic ability and good looks he has. And Sylvester hates Jackson for it, he wishes not only that he had all that, he also wishes that Jackson didn't-maybe never did-have that.
Envy is a yucky one, but Lust is worse.

>Lust is the unscrupulous, intense and unhealthy desire for something or, more classically, someone.< Let's say our example's name is Jared. Jared, he has this thing for Daisy, but Daisy has this thing going on with Bruce, and well, Bruce isn't the kind of guy to share. This 'Thing' Jared has for Daisy over time grows to become more of an all-consuming passion. He can only think of her, her, her. Daisy Daisy Daisy. He slowly falls into bad health, and still the obsession persists. He does radical things to get her attention. He does irrational things otherwise. There's a good chance that if the fact that he's not taking care of himself doesn't get to him first, he'll kill himself anyhow.
In the end, very very sad.

Greed is, strange though it may sound, one of the more finicky ones. What is greed? Well, it's actually, more than the other two at least, slightly hinged towards the 'what.' Namely, power and money. A greedy man, Roman is. Let's say roman is a businessman- relatively successful, but he is. Not. Happy. With that. Nothing is enough for the man- Even after being promoted to Vice President of his company he still yearns for more. He cheats, he swindles, and he blackmails and sneaks about the business world like an unwelcome spider. Everyone knows what he does, but has no solid evidence.
In short, >Greed is the want for power and money that makes you do terrible things.< It can, though, be towards things other than that. And one main aspect to it is that you are definately going to do something about it. Though, another clarifying factor is that the thing you want is more general- Want the neighbour's everything, not just the dolly. You look at something, you want it- not individual and specifically belonging to someone, like envy.


So, you know the differences between the three of the four deadly sins of want- Though I haven't even gotten into gluttony, more half-want than anything. Ask me about it some time, I'll talk your ears off.
