I thought a bit on the subject, and I think it would be cool to have like bird-like wings, and culture centered around it. Like the pins that new feathers come in being rolled off by romantic partners, and perhaps they have a thing where they kill those born without the ability to fly, due to beliefs that life without flight is meaningless, and those born without it should be "put out of their misery" like a lane horse. So we could have a character born without the ability to fly ovo maybe the ectobiologist as well, contributing to the fact that trolls do not have wings.

But how would wings benfit the race?

Why do wings benefit any race? Flight = higher mobility, which allows for more prey, the ability to escape dangerous situations, and the ability to leave harsh environments quickly.

Additionally wings are fucking rad, and really fun to play with. It also means a lot of fundamental changes; lighter/more brittle bones, a higher inclination to flight (as opposed to fight), and an entirely new variety of clothing and tools.

I'm only worried that wings would be useless on their planet.

As for hair, Elves have silver hair, with streaks that match their skin color, those skins were examples, not hard rules, as long as they feel like their caste its fine.

Goblins have the same kinds of love as Elves, but they much prefer "one you want to protect" over "one you have dirt on"

GOBLINS

Goblins look like monsters, but they are kind and trusting ((except to elves, they know better)) They have large noses in general, and they have really weird ears, each set is unique, some even have multiple ears. Where elves are perfect flawless skin, goblin skin has cracks and imperfections, in fact, these imperfections are what goblins find attractive in one another, seeing them as exotic tattoos, all their skin is jade, the stone not the color

They are Divided into four groups as well, those being:

Gremlins - Pale Pale jade skin, always - Short goblins, who have a knack for technology, Gremlins have small wings that allow them to glide, they often augment this with jetpacks
ORCS - DARK JADE - STRONGEST GOBLINS, NOT SMART, ALWAYS LOUD, TEND TO YELL "ORRRRRCS" VERY TALL
Hob-Goblins - Pale jade - the most common class, can be strong smart or swift, or a combination
Kobold -Dark dark jade - the sneaky goblins, very agile and swift, they have tails



A little more on their culture, Their love is represented by a dao, yin and yang, their True Dao is someone that they have both loves for, and is very rare for both kinds.

Why would they be useless? Especially on a planet where there is a lot of water, travel like that would make things easier. Prey, edible plants, and the like would be easier to acquire with more diversity, and migration from the cold to the warm would be far easier. Also, specific groups of elves won't be so isolated and the gene pool will widen.
Wings aren't really useless on any planet, especially with the huge diversity of environments just the curve of a planet's surface creates.

My thing is look at an elf that weighs 150 lbs. Even with nimble bones, going across oceans larger than Eurasia and The United States combined with no pit stops would be murder on them.

I decided to give the gremlins wings, which allows for mutants to sometimes have wings.

In the session, there are going to be 6 of each caste, and 24 of each kind

Kind = refers to Elves or Goblins as a group

Kinder = Refers to Elves AND Goblins as a group

Creatures with wings don't weigh more than their wings can handle. Their bones would be lighter, with a sponge-like composition (though still made of, you know, bone) and they would have things like air sacs, larger lungs... The altered biology extends beyond JUST having wings.
If an elf is overweight, they probably won't be able to fly, but that isn't something that occurs in nature. Evolution does not account for it.
Also, the wings would be larger in order to accommodate the weight simple bird biology doesn't take off. More wing span = more surface area for air to catch = easier flight and more possible weight.
Ever read Maximum Ride? It's like that.

I'm not saying its impossible, just that it won't fit into the Elf theme. They're Elves not Angels.

I put leathery wings on the gremlins since you were asking for wings BUT, Cherubs already have bird wings.


Since we are talking about it, at god tier, they could gain wings?

Cherubs are winged babies in traditional mythology
Homestuck makes them skeletal green monsters
I do not understand how adding wings to a species, which DOES make them less elf-like, is a terrible thing.

Honestly we really should not go so into the generic. Homestuck is all about breaking boundaries and creating new ideas, defying expectations and stereotypes to a dramatic and extreme extent. The manliest character in there (aside from equius) is gay. The mentally disabled character is the strongest and most useful. The social outcast is everybody's friend, in some way, and also the leader. The goth is the one that forges connections and becomes, ultimately, the strongest leader.

Making elves less of the calm, graceful, and wise statue-like figures potrayed in traditional society and mythology would be following that theme perfectly. Giving them the freedom of wings, and even creating an unfair hierarchy and some ugliness to them and their culture, the awkward look of wings attached to a humanoid form, would fit into this wonderfully. On top of that, it does in a way even connect them back to nature; to animals, and to the wind, and to a form of grace. It's a balance.

Also, wings are SO MUCH FUN to role-play, and it adds a lot to the diversity of the culture in the form of care and fashion.

But whatever.

Anyways, since my mother has decided to strip me of every creative and emotional outlet for an indefinite amount of time and my access to this site will be INCREDIBLY limited for a fairly long while, it doesn't even fucking matter.

Do whatever. I won't have the time to participate in this thing on top of my other stuff.

You don't have to be so sour, I am saying, its been done, lets choose different wings, I have opted for leathery bat wings, not demon or dragon, leathery.

But that does not have to be the same with the elves, give the goblins bat wings, and maybe insect for the elves, but instead of lame butterfly wings, they get random wings, one might have bee wings, or dragonfly, maybe beetle wings, complete with shell

That would be great for god tier.
