Human Template Empty Human Template

Post by tlo Wed May 17, 2017 12:55 pm

Hey! Looks like you’ve found the Human Template. This is the template you should use when writing out your original character- If they’re a human. If they’re a troll or something else, you might want a different template.
So, below is the code that you will copy and paste into a text editor of some sort (I trust you know how to do that) and from there you will add your character’s information onto it. Unless otherwise specified here, all the parts need to be filled out with a minimum amount of information depending on the section. Useful tip: The brackets with the [] and such? That’s BBCode, something that would be useful to get a grip on if you want an easier time with formatting your posts here. It’s pretty simple, but we have a walkthrough thread for it <<here>> if you’re confused. Basically, just make sure you type on the right (==>) side of the [] part.

Hey. Wanna make a better OC? Try <<this>> thread.

After you fill it out, you can post it <<here>> using the New Topic button so a moderator can go over it. Don’t worry- They’re not trying to judge you. They just want to make sure you don’t have any misconceptions and that you meet the requirements of the template. As long as you fill it out properly, you’ll be fine. Don’t worry. Heaven knows we don’t want this to be a stressful process.

Here I’ll explain the specifics of each section. Make sure you at least scroll through this part so you know how long each section has to be.

Full Name: In homestuck, human kids usually have a four letter first name and a two-sylable last name. You don’t have to listen to that, though-- People can have any sort of name. You can also include nicknames in this section if you would like.
Gender: This is not defined by the character’s genitals. I don’t think I need to explain this.
Physique (Height/Weight): If you just want to write numbers, height can be in foot’inch” format or centimeters, weight can be in lbs or kilos, whatever floats your boat. Just make it realistic, and consider consulting a height/weight chart for people of your character’s age. If you want, though, (and this is probably the easier path) you can simply describe their body type and explain it with words.
Age: Humans generally don’t live too far past 80.

Personality: This section hold how your character thinks, acts and reacts. You need a minimum of two paragraphs, or eight sentences. If you’re having a hard time with that, don’t worry! If you drop into the forum chat or PM a character application moderator, they’ll be able to help you out for sure. Again, that’s about two paragraphs (or more) that sum up the character's temperament, quirks, behaviors and traits. Is your character a leader or a follower? How do they show that they love someone? Is your character selfish or selfless? Does your character take well to their emotions or do they hide them? Is your character an introvert or an extrovert?

Physical appearance: This is where you would include a picture of your character, if you have one. If you don’t, or just want to be helpful to people reading, just write about a paragraph--four sentences--about what your character looks like. Think about face shape and physique, keeping in mind their height and weight. Think about eye shape, color, even eyebrows. Describe their hair, how long it is, if it’s straight or curly. Describe their skin tone and hair color. And then, of course, you can mention their taste in fashion and what they usually dress themselves in.

Strengths: Here you can list what your character's good at, what talents they have, the things that put them a cut above the rest. Just remember, for every good thing someone has, they undoubtedly have a bad thing in return. Try to get at least three.
Weaknesses: These shouldn’t be there just to counter the strengths. Real people have weaknesses along with and in addition to strengths. It’s what makes a character ‘3-D’ or well-rounded. Think of physical shortcomings, but also mental or psychological failings as well. Try to get at least three.
Fears/Insecurities: What makes your character shiver on the inside? Do they have an irrational fear? A rational one? Here you can list the things that unnerve, unsettle or instill unrest in your character. You need at least one or two.
Likes and Hobbies: What does your character do in their free time? Be it a hobby or just their favorite things to pass the time, everyone has their vices. List around two at least.
Dislikes: What gets your character in a rough spot? Does anything make them angry or depressed? List the things that they just don’t like. List at least two.

Handle: In Homestuck, humans usually use a client called Pesterchum. Their persterchum handle is composed of two words, the first lowercase and the second capitalized. For instance, gardenGnostic or turntechGodhead. The words are usually obscure, lengthy or complex, sometimes more than one of those, but they tend to describe your character’s personality or interests.
Typing Style: Humans don’t have quirks like trolls do, but they still often have a unique style of typing. They might not spell everything correctly, or maybe they don’t have the best grammar. Some people might have a specific emoticon they use more than others. Think along those lines.
Eye color: In Homestuck, humans can have eyes in essentially any color. It doesn’t matter what the color is. They tend to type in that color too.
Symbol: Humans have a ‘symbol’ that’s basically just the picture on their shirt. Usually simplistic and cartoony, your symbol shouldn’t be too complex and should reflect your character’s interests.
Guardian: Humans are raised from babies by another adult human, commonly referred to as a guardian. They may or may not be their parent, and if the kid is destined to play Sburb, they are likely to be ectobiologically related in some way. Other than that, it’s just the kid’s caretaker. Could be as short as 'Bro' or as long as a full description of them. You can also just link a filled Guardian character sheet.

God Tier Title: Only necessary if your character is going to be playing Sburb. If they aren’t, feel free to just delete these. There are twelve aspects and fourteen classes to choose from in Sburb, unless you would like to make your own class or aspect with the forum fan content system. A general rule of thumb is that an aspect has to do with a character’s personality, while a class has to do with their ‘destiny’ or character arc.
Land: Only necessary if your character is going to play Sburb. This generally has something do with their aspect and class. Space players always have “Frogs” in the name, but other than that do whatever!
Derse or Prospit: Only necessary if your character is going to play Sburb. This is the moon that your character dreams on- It’s unclear what defines which moon a player is assigned, but a good rule of thumb is between either optimists being on prospit and pessimists on derse, or extroverts being on prospit and introverts being on derse.
Strife Specibus: It does not have to already exist in canon. It’s basically just any weapon type, like Swordkind.
Fetch Modus: This is the inventory system in Homestuck. Some people have more than one fetch modus, while others are stuck with just one. They usually fill an inventory system in a way based on a specific theme.

Other: Here you can put any extra notes or things that don’t fit in another section.

Looks like that’s all I have for you! Again, once you’re done, make sure to post it <<here>>
