So I go inactive for a few months for school, and now this happens? I think it's time for a total site revamp.

new rules, including approval system and roleplay system, new aesthetics, including button sprites and possibly colour schemes, active and consistent moderators, new and old, and an actual playerbase for starters.

What rules? Why a colour change except to make everyone feel comforted in the idea that at least the format change? What about character approval is off? It seems like most anything can get through except missing information or false information about a race, like a hornless non grey skin troll oh wait he's just an Internet dick nevermind, or characters that are unironically blatant rip offs or so bland and riddled with cliché it's not clear if the creator was tongue in cheek or if their whole head with between their cheeks and nestled in their soft bullshit filled bowels.

So, no, the system is not perfect, but nothing really is.

First of all, I am personally "de-approving" poor Shimbi. True, if he were perfectly invisible, I nailed it, though he is not. I mean, I could say that he is SO into being underwater that he just isn't seen, but no, Shimbi is no longer approved by me. So, wave good-bye to Shimbi, everybody. FOR NOW.

Secondly, I have almost always had a bone to pick with the character creation form.

(Yes, I know I make a lot of lists and sub-lists. :/)

a.) Height and weight is more or less a joke. I don't know the height and weight of trolls. It's different based on blood color, so I just do not know. Later I might do some snooping and come up with a more or less system. However, the system is not "perfect" until Hiveswap pretty much. Human height and weight doesn't share the problem though. "Tall, heavyset, thin, lithe, short, gigantic, who are you calling so short you want to squish like an ant?" really should be under physical appearance.

b.) Birthdate. It's... not that relevant to anything at all really. That's one of those things that tend to be explained when it matters.

c.) Ages. I know this is rather important, but I'm not that good at it either. 6 sweeps and 13 years tend to be the safest bet though.

a and c.) Together, age and blood color would lead to many "average" heights and weights. Is a 9 sweep olive blood taller than a 4 sweep violet blood? I have no freakin' idea.

d.) Quirks. Not really a problem with the system itself, but some people tend to like to do VERY complex quirks. The most complicated Homestuck quirk (barring Damara, because that is another language) is, in my personal opinion, Mituna. You do not have to go MUCH more advanced than that. Trust me, it is easier to actually dialogue when you don't go super complicated with it.

e.) Strengths and weaknesses. I have seen MANY a time where strengths made the character nigh perfect barring the weakness. Though this is often true, I guess, and most of the time it is done to balance, there are just better ways to do it. Weaknesses are always my favorite part of characters. Weaknesses are always the best focus of a character. One of my favorite moments in all of Homestuck was the two Vriskas. The Vriska who was with Meenah a long time, and the one that stole that Meenah from her. It made me realize that Vriska was truly, truly weak. Who even cares that Equius is strong? Yes, he's strong, but he is flawed, and his flaws are my favorite part of him. Now, here is where I scare all of you away with one statement. Eridan is (in my opinion) the best troll. He has lost EVERYTHING. He's lost all relationships with others. He's lost his friends. He lost all respect for him. Even EQUIUS derides him even though he is one peg away from the top of his highblood fetish.

f.) Fears/insecurities are more or less weaknesses.

g.) Likes, dislikes, hobbies. What is this? A dating site? (I get why it's important. I just felt like mocking it). Hobbies mix with likes a little and dislikes mix with fears a little.

h.) God tier titles. A lot of the time, I see people interpret titles as ONE power or ONE role and stuff like that. The prince of hope destroyed hope with hope. The maid of time "served" time and "served" with time. Also, just because you have one god tier power, does not mean you cannot have another.

i.) Describe my character in THREE words? This has to be a joke.

j.) Two items on an island? What is this? A personality quiz?

k.) Change something about yourself could probably go under weaknesses/insecurities.

l.) Fridge? (see j)

m.) Sylladex is more important than what two items you would bring to an island. You would starve or thirst to death if you brought nourishment, but couldn't take it out.

n.) Personally, I don't stick to my character's sheet much at all.

o.) I understand not wanting to be "hated on", but there is only mod criticism on characters. Can I ask people for criticism? If I can, anybody who wants can just sort of comment on any of my characters whenever they feel like it. Maybe add a tag to your character if you want criticism?

p.) Mods take a while sometimes. :/

q.) Black isn't that good of a background with a lot of these blood colors. Burgundy, brown, olive, indigo, purple, and violet are all hell to read here.

I don't want to defend anything, the system, the approvals, the admins, or this site. Someone else do that if they wanna, unless you'd like to do this in a rhyme in a different thread. Though since this thread has no specific topic except THIS and it HAPPENING, I'd like to think that a rap battle over the character approval system would support whatever their case was if it had to do with ridiculousness, or solve their problem by bringing an influx of people to witness it, or just us posting 300% more frequently! even though in that case I'll be done arguing with you in five lines and spend the rest of the time discussing how I have, am, and/or will seduce and in a very intimate and lewd way, do one or multiple member(s) of your family, and how my rhymes are in many ways objectively more SWEET than yours.

for one thing, black or dark grey background with white text is easiest on the eyes, so rp sites choose that.

Most of your points can be deflected with a "We're roleplaying a specific thing, hon." It's homestuck. Birthdays are important. Likes and hobbies are important. Age is, wow, important, fuck it.

As for height and weight, it really helps for some people. A character sheet is NOT somewhere you put things that you know.
A character sheet is something that makes you think about your goddamn OC for once, honestly. It ain't that hard to figure out height and weight, unless you don't have a sense of spacial reasoning. If you do, I am sure we can make an exception.

Looking back at my points, I think that there are three that are major-ish. To be fair, they're all important, though I just feel they're good talking points more than needing any real action, but these are the most major.

Some people don't give a shit or don't think about syllidexes, except for one off jokes, which is mostly what they're used for in homestuck after john did all the faffing around with a syllidex possible in general and everyone else just got enough inventory diddling time to show off once how theirs is special and fits their personality once.

Who do you want to criticize? Criticizing seems rude, because a lot of people are sensitive and avoiding any hurt feelings is just easier, though I take criticism as a sign of friendship and if I don't get it in a long time I feel lonely and perfect, woe is he who is great. I want criticized and I feel some others may want some criticism too. Criticism isn't neccesarily a bad thing. Criticism allows us to become better. I mainly just want a "please criticize this character" tag. Though really a "please give input" tag on a cgaracter would be better to be honest. I just feel that the community should allow input on a character if they want it. I'm unsure if it's against the rules currently though. It'd be useful for something I'm working on currently as well ;)

honestly, on the criticism point, I say if you're posting your character on a public site, you should be ready to get criticism. Society is to coddling as is, and I'm not gonna hold back if I think someone is spewing poorly written shit at me. I may not be a good writer, but I at least try and is okay with critics

Physical strengths in homestuck is broken as shit with people who can literally alter space and time, and the bullshit some people interpret from the more nuanced aspects giving mind control, on the subject of troll, psionics can be bullshit too. Balance on a power scale is something that should be dealt with on a local level, every rp is different, and it needs a serious discussion if any serious conflict happens when bullshit powers are involved as to actually create stories with tension, or in a comedic situation as to set up future gags.

Mental strengths and and weaknesses are core to a character. Realism should be kept in mind. Just, just don't make it too shit.

Yknow, or well, y' don'tknow, I've tried an Eastern European adopted lass, a dancestor, but never submitted it with the personal impression that she leaned onto the gypsy thing a bit heavily and was pretty scattered in concept. It's easier to give an in depth impression of a character after seeing it used rather than a brief summary of what you INTEND to show. I don't think one could fuck up too bad if they fill in blanks and avoid common pitfalls of character creation, and to avoid them I suggest going to the shadiest Rick the Fasthog fan fiction or role playing site and just taking a good hard look at everything that has a douchey smile.

You aren't allowed to criticize people's creations because people are sensitive. Pretty simple. Yeah, maybe if you said you want it, I bet you could get some. But I myself deeply disliked getting a point-by-point analysis from a peer when I first started writing. If you can't relate, that is your problem. Maybe a tag, but it cannot be allowed as a norm.
