Basic thing:

Confederacy (Morally ambiguous) vs Republic (Evil)

Confederacy is huge but decentralized and diverse, while Republic is smaller but centralized and comparatively homogenous.

It's a time of relative peace, and technology is shared between the states and races of the Confederacy, allowing new technology like MMO's that transfer information from across the entire nation almost instantaneously. The Republic is a similar story, except the technology is reserved only to those not deemed a minority.

You're playing a new MMO called Assassins Reprieve, and it recently got patched with a mysterious new update the developers didn't announce. No one knows what it did... until a group of strangers from all around the cosmos started assassinating people... and it actually happened.

OOC: Rather than develop a thread idea revolving around the prevention of player abandonment and eventual thread death, this game is intended to turn it into a mechanic of the story itself.

If you don't respond within 48 hours of your last post, without a Reprieve Pass, you are open game. Other players are allowed to invade, and assassinate your character in anyway they see fit in order to improve their Sburb game to a new level. First come, first serve. This is the game of an opportunist.

If no one kills you within 48 hours, you have until the next Update to respond, as in that Update which determines the status of all active players, it will describe your death. After that, that's it. You're dead.

After that point you are still able to respond to the thread, but only as an "NPC" in the MMO.

For those who need to go on LOA's, you can complete challenges that allow you to gain Reprieve Passes. You can hold one pass at a time, and they expire in two weeks, protecting you from being Assassinated if you miss the 48 hour window. As soon as the Pass expires, you're open season again, unless the next Update after its expiration kills you off.

To prevent people from being overwhelmed, I will initiate a "Stampeding" Rule, meaning that a single player cannot be engaged in more than one conversation at the same time, meaning if you see someone chatting with another, your message will be put on hold until they are done, so they aren't obligated to respond right away.

I'm up for this.

Though it'd be nice to have more depth into the two societies. A small note, "evil" is probably a bad way to describe it. Evil for the sake of evil really isn't a thing. Though I assume you meant that to describe that the government is tyrannical.

Until I have more information on both sides, I don't really know which to choose.

Also, is there any incentive to assassinate others? Is there looting and stuff? Looting would pretty much require some sort of asymmetry amongst each other by having different items and stuff.

I'm interested. Feels like one of those anime's where people are stuck in the MMO, which I tend to enjoy XD

@DistantRed, yeah Evil is probably a misnomer.

I want it to be a Tyrannical government, but not necessarily under a Tyrannical dictator, I want it to be more Tyranny of the Majority; though an influential Tyrant might be a part of it. So whoever the majority of the Republic is (or rather, defined as), oppresses whoever is the minority, with no protection of minority rights. I want it to be full of the xenophobes and the racists, that have taken full control of all military operations within its sector. They hate the Confederacy because they see it as undemocratic, a hod-podge of lesser cultures, and a foster house for brutalizing dictators. They also fear attacking them directly given that if the Confederacy was ever even momentarily united in common cause, they would be eradicated.

The Confederacy on the other hand is a large coalition of allied civilizations with a weak centralized government, that only has the select powers to tax, and to send that revenue wherever deemed as needed most. The only rights it guarantees, is the right of the states to govern however they please so long as they pay their tribute to the Confederacy. They also grant the sole individual the right to appeal to the Federal Government to relocate to any state, ONCE. After that, they are on their own. To ensure they lose no citizens, the more brutal dictators make these appeals needlessly difficult to accomplish, or otherwise tax it to kingdom come... meaning that while the right is technically guaranteed, for some it has legally been made impossible. They hate the Republic because of it's extremely xenophobic culture and tendency to endorse genocides.... but they tend to turn a blind eye to the genocides happening within its own coalition. They fear the Republic because of its centralized military might, and the threat that if it ever got too big it would take over the galaxy under their oppressive rule, leading the largest purge of alien species ever known.

Looting will also definitely be a thing. To what capacity that will go, I am unsure of, though most likely it'll exponentially increases one advancement in Sburb/Sgrub/Whatever along with the possibility of unlocking unique things the more you kill. Assassination is the name of the game, so of course, there will be heavy incentives to backstab, betray, and just generally slaughter each other. However, with the political backgrounds a little bit more explained, there will be a far greater incentive to kill only those players who identify with their respective side, or those who are suspected of being sympathizers (highly encouraged!). Or maybe you'll be compelled just to kill a compatriot player due to class difference or intra-national rivalries.

Essentially, kill anyone you want for any given list of reasons, relating to nationality, or just because you're a psycho-nut!

@BK, that's basically what I was going for! Like, somehow Sburb/Sgrub/THE GAME gets inserted into the MMO coding, thus unlocking a unique twist to the classic building game for the birth of a new Universe at the expense of the current one.

Both nations seem intent on using it to destroy the other, and the only way to do that is to coerce the kids to their side of things. Expects lots of bribery, witch hunts, and all sorts of death being dealt.

@DevilishBladesmen

here's an idea, has anyone here seen Accel-world? if not the game follows the basics of a fighting MMO where kids fight to gain burst point. these burst points can be used in the outside would to freeze time or if you have enough point, slow it down immensely. the catch is you lose all the burst points you have then the game is erased forever can never be downloaded again. In the anime they also lose all memories of the game as well but for this instance we can have it that they die instead.
this would add some what of an incentive as well as giving us something new besides the usual sburb or sgrub game play mechanic.
but thats just an idea, you don't have to follow it.

I'm not sure that will really fit the theme.

I was just working off the concept of a personal assassinating other players by "digitally" killing them with an avatar created by Sburb, in order to earn grist or whatever. Make fortresses that are better defended, etc.

Think Dark Souls II and invading people as far as assassinating goes.

okay, I understand.
But i just feel that the whole Sgrub/Sburb engine kinda puts people off.
I don't mind using it but a new engine might bring some new spice to the forum.
